“King-A-Wappa” is a character my father, Jack Kohl, made up in 1938, when he was just 8 or 9 years old (depending on the time of year he finished the story). To keep the creative energy of this endeavor going, I have adopted this moniker for myself as a nickname; and for this website.
I have been inspired to create works of art in various genres over the years. The inspiration comes in no small part from reading this wonderful story about an adventure King-A-Wappa embarked upon to photograph a lion and indigenous peoples in Africa. My mother played violin, for many years, in the local symphony, played piano and was often heard bursting into song. Three older sisters and an older brother, all with their own artistic talents and sensibilities, have inspired and schooled me, as well, throughout my artistic journeys.
Thankfully, my parents and siblings are all still among the quick of this earth. So, in honor of them and all they have taught and stimulated in me, I decided to form this website to show off my creations.
